Cambridge Kannada Kali school in its starting days.
Cambridge Kannada Kali school started in year 2016. The need for such school in a foreign land was born while teaching Kannada to our own children. The intention was for children to be able to communicate with their grandparents and extended family. There is evidence to prove the benefits of learning another language, particularly mother tongue to help improve academic performance in other subjects too. The idea was discussed with some friends of Cambridge Kannada Balaga, who agreed to send their children to the school. It started with 5 children and now has successfully grown to accommodate 30 children.
Coming to a foreign country means leaving a great deal behind like family, friends, familiar sights and smells of home. Putting down roots in a different place often comes with fear of the younger generation losing touch with their own culture and history. However, by learning the language of their ancestors, children can connect with their parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles in their native language to truly understand their own traditions and culture, without anything getting lost in translation. Learning a second language has also been proven to strengthen memory and multitasking in growing children. Naturally, bilingual children have improved academic performance as well as a broader outlook to life.
The purpose of taking starting such initiative is achieving exactly this by teaching children Kannada. What started as a small idea between friends has since blossomed into a complete school.
